the only thing that matters is that its fun...

fuck that review there's 40 other reviews that say otherwise... ive driven a brz auto , and i firmly believe all anyone needs is a test drive...

i can afford more power if i need it but i probably wont, all my money is going to suspension and lightweight shit so i can toss it more

and it isnt just hype, the car handles THAT good, and it is a hoot to drive, why else would anyone give up cars that cost 35k-50k for a 25k sports car, there's plenty of us doing it, its not that its cheaper, its just funner on a daily basis...

Sounds like you don't know how to launch

In my stage2 STi I have to launch at 4-4.5k or else it will bog down. Don't let the clutch go slowly and you wont burn it. I've hard launched my car hundreds of times autocrossing and my tranny/diffs all work fine!

others that i have looked at getting but not in my price range.

Good news, the BRZ has even less torque below 3000rpm. The gearing is also longer than the S2000, so it'll feel much much slower. For the AP2 what they did was increase displacement AND shorten gearing, to make you feel like you were accelerating a lot faster. They could've made the low cam more potent on the S2000, but they didn't for fuel efficiency reasons.

Unusable? At least 75% of cars on the street I see have less acceleration even at the speeds where the BRZ is weak, and I live in a place crawling with high power luxury cars.

If they do release a higher rev version, expect even less low end torque.

I'm not sure you gain anything by doing a clutch dump other than beating the crap out of your car. There are videos of WRXs on drag strips where you can see the driveshaft coming out of the bottom of the car when the driver dumps the clutch. This doesn't help you accelerate any faster. Just letting the clutch out progressively and giving it more gas as you go is just as fast and much better for the car.
This wasn't a clutch dump.... At least on the STI the rear diff twists and bangs because of the torque.. clutch smell is from doing what you describe.... I never had hotspots on my clutch, maybe i just have a sensitive nose... I know some people say if you smell clutch then you are doing it too slowly.

If you do it right there is no more slipping of the clutch than any other start or stop. I smell burning clutch when I'm trying to parallel park on a hill, never when I'm launching my car. The goal is to let out the clutch in as little time possible, so the amount of slipping the clutch is kept to a minimum. I'm still on my original clutch at 130,000 miles.

Did you upgrade your rear diff bushings? I hated that noise.....

It's also sad to point out that only in the North American market was the engine changed. Japan and Europe still got the F20C engine in the AP2 chassis.

It really makes you wonder if people in North America can really handle the concept of a fun to drive car. So far all signs point to no, unfortunately for us real driving enthusiasts.

Didn't Japan also get 2.2L by 06 or 07?

We're all maniacs for arguing about a car we haven't driven yet.

What econobox are you comparing it to? A Subaru WRX?
