Do you mind divulging what religion you associate yourself with? Just for personal curiosity, feel free to decline an answer. I don't want this thread to take that dark turn.

I agree with you, people are less committed to their relationships, when something isn't working out a lot of people cut and run instead of suffering silently or fighting to iron out the problems. I'm not convinced that's a bad thing.

I think the bigger problem is a lack of respect between people, anything from a door ding to a couple becoming emotionally distant instead of being honest with each other.

I don't,

I was raised with "christian" values, but not stealing killing or taking advantage of people SHOULD be fairly universal. I'm not familiar with any religions that promote hatred on their face.

I really didn't anticipate such a vague answer, but I appreciate it, it does eliminate my second guess. Agreed that on their face most religions are beneficial to society as we know it.

Much appreciated.

To clarify...I don't (associate myself with any religion per se)

Most religions have a good set of morals built into them, the controlling aspect that has grown to be religions main trademark is the problem therewith, but that's WAY OT

So you don't like that religions control their followers but post this:

Curious... apologies for the prodding but I just don't want to let that slide.

Not sure how that relates directly, I'm not in favor of suppressing women's rights, It's simply a fact of our current societal evolution, I blame the media for glorifying infidelity.

I for one prefer a strong woman who makes her own decisions, on valid data. To get back to the point I was making earlier, we have a tendency to try to make up for short comings of our forefathers by "over-empowering" those we feel were at one point denied equality...when you start telling any group of people that now instead of being inferior they are actually better than another group it goes to their heads. We haven't yet reached a point where actually equality is prevalent, the rights of any one group of people looks more like a sine wave than a straight line, we would do well to quit drawing lines around ethnic groups and women VS men.

Changes happen more quickly now than in any previous generation, that is both good and bad. It doesn't give us time to react or stabilize as a society.

If you want to know more about my (probably distorted) point of view feel free to PM me, I feel like we are killing the poor OP's thread.

If you ask me, any lessons to be taken from this whole ordeal are right here:

I have a friend that allowed her best friend to eventually talk her into marrying him. Her reasoning was that romantic love for him would eventually develop over time. She said he'd pretty much given her an ultimatum, either start a romantic relationship, or he was not going to be friends with her anymore. Over the course of about 10 years, they produced four small humans and then got a divorce. She finally realized it was never going to happen, and she was pretty unattracted to him sexually.

Moral of the story: you can't force love. Neither on yourself or anyone else.

It sucks if you're the one genuinely in love, but sometimes you've just got to come to terms with reality that it's just not going to happen. And no matter how much it may seem like this one person is the only one that you could ever love this much, you have to man up and trust logic over emotion that not only is it possible, but also probable to find someone else just as good, but who will also reciprocate the feelings, thus making it better.

Don't get oneitis.

From my experience with relationships, if it doesn't work it then move on. I mean even if you tried working it out, you guys will only be happy for a couple of months but eventually it will die out again. There are so many people out there and it will take time for the right person to come to your life.

I lost a best friend in 2007 to an accidental overdose. He was 23 years old. It's hard to get over the shock, and sometimes you never really do, but you learn to deal with it the best you can.

On the topic of relationships...I was in an unhealthy one. Dated the guy for about 6 years, got married, had a wonderful 1.5 years of marriage before it all fell apart. I took an OTH discharge to end it and get away from him. Yeah, it sucks. I'll never be in the military again, however, to this day I do not regret my decision. He was crazy, verbally abusive, and often mentally unstable. I see that now, but it's not always easy to see when you love someone.

Sorry for your loss. Hopefully things will get a little easier as time goes by.

For real. I have a friend who recognizes that her husband treats her like crap, and that the children see it, yet she does not leave. That first step must be really hard. When she told me about the situation, I showed her the various resources out there. "We can find you a place TONIGHT where he won't find you or the kids." But it's a decision she has to make for herself.
@Luna glad you got out of that mess. Life is too short!
